So in English today we were talking about language and gender, and how the use of different words can help to identify the speaker as male or female. Like, girl would be more likely to say lavender, where a guy would just say purple. And we were talking about other examples, and my prof went up to this one guy and says "Let's pretend I brought a puppy to class, and I put it right here on your desk. Would you look at it and say 'Aww, what an adorable puppy?' " and the guy was like "No. I might say it was cute or something."
And then this guy at the back of the room was like "It depends on the context you're saying it in. Cause I mean, if I was with a bunch of my friends and I said "Look at that puppy, it's so adorable." they'd be like, "Dude, what are you, a fag?" "
And then it hit me. When I finally manage to find myself a guy, I want one that isn't afraid to say that a puppy is adorable. I want a boy that can appreciate stuff like musicals and dance without being afraid that his friends will call him names. I want a guy that will wear pink, because gender stereotypes suck, and we shouldn't conform to them. I might even go so far as to say I want a guy that isn't afraid to wear eyeliner, even if it's only for Halloween. But that might be setting the bar a little high. So we'll stop at pink.

but he doesnt wear makeup
i couldnt even get him to wear a tie
what a bum
I had to fight to get rob to wear more than just a mask for Halloween, but he wears a tie when the occasion calls for. No eyeliner though. And he'd say cute.
Adorable just isn't a guy word. I'm sorry it just isn't going to happen. I'm a guy, and I definetyley think puppies are the cutest things ever but if I was just hangin out with guys I would never say anything like adorable, maybe I'd say "That's a pretty cute puppy" but I would say it in more of a manly way. there would be no ohhing and ahhhing. And this is coming from a guy who for the most part could care less about what other guys think. The thing is every man wants to be seen as a man by other men. I don't have to be more of a man then everyone else but I do have to be considered somewhat of a man. If I were to use the word adorable in front of a group of guys my manly meter would shoot down. I like to think that I would be able to do that and it wouldn't bother me but the fact is it would. Taking away a guys manliness is like taking away his life force. We live our lives being manly. Maybe not everything we do is ment to be manly but alot of it is. We show off in sports or we try to be funny as heck, or just try to be cool, and the reason we do it is for girls. Lets face it girls like some forms of manliness, and the more forms of manliness we posses raise the chances of attracting a girl. Atleast that would be the conscience thought of most guys. But don't think that a girls thinking her boyfriend or spouse is manly is enough, men also need the manly approval from other men, I don't know why this is, It JUST IS. Anyway this has been plenty long, it wasn't supposed to be this long. The point is that finding a guy that would say adorable in front of his guy friends would be extremely hard but I definetley see where you are coming from in this post. Maybe there are guys out there who would disagree with everything I've said but I think I stand for a good chunk of guys.
holy crap terrell.
and whatever, i have so heard you use the word adorable.
brynne i am sure there is a boy out there who will be just like that, keep looking! he'll find you. also, its funny to decide what kind of guy you want b/c there are usually a little different that what you've planned...God has a funny way of surprising you...
Terrell, I love that your comment is pretty much as long as my original post.
Ha, my boyfriend actually does own a pink shirt! and wears suit jackets like nintey percent of the time!
oh, and by the way, Terrell, I don't think adorable should go either way genderwise...I hardly ever use that word...I was babysitting a beagle puppy yesterday and I called it cute but adorable never escaped my lips
I just re-read this, and terrell, you used the word man and it's variants almost a million times.
the whole comment is man/men/manliness.
i find that amusing
